YLHH delivers PCBN (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) superhard cutting solutions for hard turning, facing, and finishing of hardened steel (HRC 45–68), cast iron, and sintered metals. With proprietary grades and ISO-standard geometries, we help manufacturers replace grinding with turning — longer tool life and consistent surface quality.
PCBN Material Science
Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) is the second-hardest known material after diamond, with superior thermal stability for ferrous and hard material machining. YLHH PCBN inserts feature a CBN-rich composite cutting layer brazed to a cemented carbide substrate, precision-ground to ISO indexable insert tolerances for edge strength and dimensional consistency.
Manufacturing & Quality Control
Composite Layer
Optimized CBN grain size and binder composition for wear resistance and toughness.
Brazing
Reliable bond between PCBN layer and carbide substrate for heavy-duty cutting.
Precision Grinding
ISO geometry, edge prep, and locating faces ground to ensure repeatable clamping.
Laser Marking
Model and batch ID for full traceability from incoming material to shipment.

Performance Advantages
- 5–10× tool life vs. PVD-coated carbide in HRC 45–68 hardened steel
- Surface finish Ra 0.4–0.8 µm achievable without grinding
- Excellent thermal stability under high cutting temperatures
- Compatible with standard ISO inserts and tool holder systems
Hard Turning vs. Grinding
Hard Turning (PCBN)
- Single setup, shorter cycle time
- Lower capital and energy cost
- Automation and in-process gauging friendly
- Complex profiles in one operation
Grinding
- Multiple setups and handling
- Higher coolant and consumable cost
- Limitations on some bores/steps
- Dust and environmental requirements
Materials & Operations
| Material | Hardness | Typical Operations |
|---|---|---|
| Hardened alloy / bearing steel | HRC 45–68 | OD, ID, facing, grooving |
| Cast iron / CGI | HB 220–600 | Brake discs, cylinder bores, rolls |
| Sintered metal / hard alloys | High hardness | Finishing, profiling, interrupted cuts |
Application Engineering
YLHH Technical Application Support helps customers with:
- Grade and geometry selection by material, hardness, and operation
